Project Details

You will be making a Google Slides with all the information you researched on your scientist. This will be presented to class to teach everyone what you have learned. You will use that same information to create a “Wanted” poster of your scientist using Google Docs.

Please share with Ms. Vereen a folder titled “Last, First - Women in Science Project”. This folder will have three things inside;

a Google Slides of your Presentation
a Google Doc of your Poster*
a Google Doc of your Works Cited

*Another option is for you to make your poster in Notability and export is as a PDF that you add to your shared Google folder.

Project Objectives

To use the Internet, books, and reference materials in the library to conduct research on the life of a female scientist.
To recognize and summarize the scientist contributions to math and science.
To understand that the work of scientists benefits society in a number of ways.
To explore the different types of inventions and occupations that pertains to science.

Requirements

create in Google Slides

You will present your slideshow on the day you signed up for. You need to know your scientist well enough to answer questions the class may have. You should not simply be reading from the slides.

Your slideshow must include:

First and last name of your scientist
Picture of your scientist; it should be cited
Date of birth / date of death, if scientist is no longer living (if still alive, give age)
Country/state where she was born
Country/state where she did her work
Occupation/type of work
2 facts about the person or events from her life
Major contribution (new ideas, discoveries, or new understandings of the natural world) the scientist has made to benefit Science or Mathematics
Name the type or types of science this person studied. Examples: astronomy, chemistry, genetics, physics, etc.
An event (war, discovery, invention) that happened in history while your scientist lived.

Your poster MUST include:

First and last name of your scientist
Picture of your scientist, it should be cited
Date of birth / date of death, if scientist is no longer living (if still alive, give age)
Country/state where she was born
Country/state where she did her work
One sentence of why she is famous or "Wanted"
Her accomplishments in your own words: 5-10 complete sentences

Choose 6 of the following items to add to your poster:

A quote by your scientist
1-2 additional pictures of your scientist or their work
A picture of what they worked on, ex. Invented the telephone
Where they went to school/college
If they had any other jobs, ex. teacher, lawyer, doctor, etc...
Family information: husband/wife, children, parents, brothers, sisters.
What else was happening in history when the scientist was famous?
Did this scientist work with another scientist? Who was it and what did they do?
Are there any museums or other places named after your scientist?
Did your scientist publish any books or writing due to their research? What were the titles and what was it about?

You must include a list of all your sources. This is for both information and images you use. (books, websites, magazines, etc..). You should use at least 2 sources.

Click on the "citations" tab at the top for details on format.

Slideshow and posters must be neat and organized. You will be showing your slideshow to class and the posters will be displayed in the hallway, please make sure they are presentable.
