8th Grade: Civil Rights Images and Information Project: Project Guidelines

Project details and resources for your civil rights project.

Research Question

 

  1. Please do some preliminary research in order to formulate a research question.  

  2. Your research question MUST be okayed by Ms. Gordon and will be graded as a homework assignment.

  3. Note: your “specific” and “present day” topics must also be okayed by Ms. Gordon.

General Categories

Five Very General Categories:

  1. LGBTQ+ Rights

  2. Women’s Rights

  3. PoC Rights

  4. Immigrants and Refugees

  5. People with Disabilities

  1. Bulleted information that highlights and explains:

    1. What is this movement fighting for?

        1. General Details (this should be relatively short, as it is very general):

          • What is the background information I need to know to understand your movement?

        2. General facts and figures (feel free to include more than what is below)

          • Milestones

  1. Detailed look at one historical event that is related to your topic (this is an in-depth part of your research): 

    • This must be approved by Ms. Gordon

    • A really in-depth discussionWHY/HOW it was supported or undermined, the repercussions, etc.

  1. Detailed look at a (relatively) current event that is related to the historical event you examined (this is an in-depth part of your research). 

    • This must be approved by Ms. Gordon

    • How is this movement faring in this political climate today?

    • Link your detailed, specific event that you have researched to something that is currently happening involving your movement

Bibliography

Submitted by ONE member of the partner group to Schoology:

  1. Research bibliography in MyBib/Noodletools format

    1. Minimum 20 sources

      • 10 per person

        • Five of the 10 must be primary sources

  2. Abridged Annotated Image Bibliography for every image you use 

    1. You must explain in one sentence WHAT THE IMAGE IS

    2. You must explain in one sentence WHY YOU CHOSE THE IMAGE

Presentation to Class

  1. Presentation to the class

    • A 5-7 minute presentation where you (or you and your partner) present ONLY YOUR IMAGES to the class.

    • Please teach us!
