In the fall of 2021, diver Shlomi Katzin discovered a 900 year old sword while diving off the Carmel coast of Israel. The sword dates to the Crusades and was among several objects discovered. Since the sword was underwater for most of this time it was preserved in very good condition. It's rare to find a sword like this intact. Click the video to see what it looks like!
In 2023, x-ray imaging of the sword showed that it was bent, indicating that it was likely damaged in battle. The sword was not in a scabbard and was probably dropped by a crusader on a naval ship. Read the Live Science article to learn more about the results of the x-ray!
